MILITARY HEALTH SYSTEM
Military Health System (MHS) provides healthcare and healthcare services across the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force, serving 9.6 million beneficiaries worldwide active duty service members, military retirees, their eligible family members and survivors. MHS operates over 50 military hospitals and over 600 clinics, as well as a supporting network of private sector providers. MHS maintains a medically ready fighting force, and a ready medical system that is prepared to respond to the full spectrum of military operations. With Readiness as the principle mission, MHS provides an integrated combat-ready system in support of battlefield medical requirements that includes deployable hospitals, shipboard medical capabilities, an aeromedical evacuation system, and global medical surveillance services.
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) operates one of the nation’s largest integrated health care systems, treating over 6 million patients in fiscal year 2014 with more than 1,700 hospitals, clinics, community living centers, and readjustment counseling centers. The VA serves America”s veterans in medical care, burial/memorial services, and provides programs in benefits administration and financial assistance to service members, military veterans, their families, and survivors.
U.S. FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is the oldest comprehensive consumer protection agency in the U. S. federal government. The FDA is responsible for protecting the public health of the United States by assuring the safety, efficacy and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation’s food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation. As authorized by Congress, the FDA enforces the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and several other public health laws, as well as monitors the manufacture, import, transport, storage, and sale of $1 trillion worth of goods annually. FDA is also responsible for advancing the public health innovations that make medicines more effective, safer, and more affordable, and for providing the public with accurate, science-based information they need to safely use medications and foods to maintain and improve their health.
